Book list

by rosclarke @ 2006-09-05 - 17:48:05

I stole this from someone else's blog because I thought it looked fun though I'm not sure it will be of interest to anyone else.  I haven't added 3 books and I've missed out most of the last 200 (yes, really!) since I've never read, started or intend to read any of them.

What have I noticed?  That I rarely start books without finishing them unless they're by Charles Dickens.  That I've read lots of classic children's literature but not much recently.  That I don't read sci-fi.  I probably knew all that already.  It's reminded me of some books I'd like to read again (I Capture the Castle, Cold Comfort Farm) and a few I wish I'd never read (Kane and Abel, Flowers in the Attic).

More interesting, perhaps, was observing what books have been added to the list in this ad hoc way.  I suspect many of them were added as a way of showing off (though not the Terry Pratchett books which were presumably added because they were the only books those people had read).

Here's the key:
• Bold those books you've read.
• Italicise started-but-never-finished.

1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
3. His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman

4. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling
6. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
7. Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne
8. 1984, George Orwell

9. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis
10. Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte
