So, I can't quite work out how this came up, but yesterday over lunch I discovered that 'boob tube' is an American expression for the TV.

Not in the UK.

I believe the American equivalent would be 'tube top'.

I was going to link to an image of one in case anyone was still uncertain about the garment being referred to, but I couldn't find any pictures that were appropriate for family viewing. You'll have to use your imaginations, or ask a friend.

It reminds me of something I saw recently about a man who, when asked which languages he spoke, replied, 'I speak English and Australian fluently, but I generally understand American too.' So true.

It's bright and sunny with beautiful blue skies but it is starting to get properly cold here. Weather.com tells me it's 29 degrees F which means it's below zero. Added to this is the wind chill factor. Because it's seriously windy here.

Today is also bin day for some people. Which meant that as I drove back from the supermarket just now, there were empty dustbins blowing freely across the road. It felt a little like one of those early computer games in which the frog had to cross the road while avoiding the traffic that appeared randomly.

ETA Apparently it did snow here last night, though by the time I left the house this morning, there was just the tiniest patch left along the window of my car.
